Why does this generation of teenagers think that they should have sex at 13 or 14? Why do they think that they're won't be possible consequences to having sex? No wonder HPV is such a huge thing now. No wonder there are so many teen pregnancies where a 13 year old already needs to have an abortion? I just don't understand. If you're young, enjoy being young! You'll grow up soon enough and realize a lot of choices you made were foolish.

Why are these things happening so frequently? Is it the media? Movies? Television? Music? The clothing industry? Their parents? I'm so confused. Anyone have any ideas?

The media is a huge part.
Another part is that the foods we feed them make their hormones mature at a greater and more rapid rate. Girls are getting their period as early as 5 years old ... some at 8 ... and some at 10 ... so with sexaulity blooming earlier the physical desire is there ... fuel it with social stuff the media's pumping into them ... well, here we are today ... I think the TV show, "Nip Tuck" did a show about this.

Being a teenager (not 13 or 14, though), my intelligent peers don't want to grow up. In general my friends and I find adult responsibility limiting and boring and hope to never become a part of it.
However, we also believe in freedom. Why guilt your children? Sex is a natural thing. Instead of trying to scare them out of it, why not respectfully tell them it's probably not a good idea, but teach them how to be safe about it if they decide to anyway? You'd be surprised how much a little respect means to a teenager. Most of the kids I know who have sex/do drugs all the time are the ones who's parents didn't respect them when they set boundaries.
What's happening in society is the increase of material and media obsession and the decrease of good parenting. Parents use religion to scare their children into ideas, either are too strict or not nearly strict enough, etc. They don't need parenting classes, they need to use their common sense.
But if you think about our society, it's easy to see why one would want to grow up. Being a kid isn't like it used to be. When I was a kid I spent my time outside doing traditional kid things, but most kids then and now don't. Growing up to them means the false sense of capitalistic 'freedom.' Getting away from their parents' rules, etc.
But anyway...yeah... It's the downfall of society itself. Hopefully some generation soon will have the reverse-pscyhology reaction and turn it around.

I think its the "wanting what you cannot have" syndrome- or maybe wanting what you shouldn't have yet instead.
Kids think the being adult is equal to being free, having freedom to do what you want, when you want, where you want.
They don't have the cognitive ability to see that they are totally wrong, as adults do not have the freedom they seem to see them having. If anything we have more responsibility that any teen will ever have.
I wish I could go back to being innocent and 13 again- that would be stellar to have my parents be responsible for paying all my bills and doing my cleaning and laundry, while I only have to attend school and have FUN! What a life!

Because the generation that was responsible for raising them did a terrible job. So when adults complain about teenagers being bad they should take that finger and poke themselves in the eye because its their fault if teenagers are...I personally think the teenage generation today are a lot smarter and more caring considering the fact that they carry the burden of having to live and try to fix a world that past generations didn't care enough about to protect and instead used up every resource they had and weren't smart enough to realize that it was have a negative effect in the end... That is my two cents : )
