well how can u tell if someone is lying?? i watched "the live of the others"...as u know its the german movie which won the academy award this year....and in the begining there is a very interesting observation. in police custody an honest person becomes furious with time but a criminal gradually becomes quiet or starts crying....its wonderful to note this.....guilt conciousness i should say....what are the cues which u take as a confirmatory statement of lying??

Suppose that the government decides to charge cola consumers an excise tax. Before the tax, 12 million cases of cola are sold every month at a price of $3.50 per case. After the tax, 6 million cases of cola are sold every month; consumers pay $4.00 per case and producers receive $2.00 per case. Use this information to answer the following questions.

Can someone please explain to me what Friedman's theory was that they referenced in 'Syriana', and if the reference they used in the movie was accurate in regards to what Friedman actually said?

Thanks,

Danny Dalton: Some trust fund prosecutor, got off-message at Yale, thinks he's gonna run this up the flagpole, make a name for himself, maybe get elected some two-bit, congressman from nowhere, with the result that Russia or China can suddenly start having, at our expense, all the advantages we enjoy here. No, I tell you. No, sir. Corruption charges! Corruption? Corruption is government intrusion into market efficiencies in the form of regulations. That's Milton Friedman. He got a goddamn Nobel Prize. We have laws against it precisely so we can get away with it. Corruption is our protection. Corruption keeps us safe and warm. Corruption is why you and I are prancing around in here instead of fighting over scraps of meat out in the streets. Corruption is why we win.

They always hold everyone up because someone has to carry them and they are always being chased by nasty types who wish them harm.
Maybe it would help if they didn't wear stiletto heels, frilly bikinis and demand stop offs for retouching lipstick ?

Okay..I was at a concert or something, I was in the back row of seats and there was computers behind me. There's this guy who sits next to me in the dream, and when I start using the computer behind me to check my email and stuff he sits in my lap and like starts rubbing my eyebrows and then he starts rubbing his nose against mine and does that the rest of the dream, I start moving my eyes to look away and stuff..

That is all I actually remember. Does it mean anything or is it just one of those weird dreams that doesn't mean a thing?

Thank You!

I saw this article today in the LA Times, "Wedded to greed in India", that stated "Despite official efforts, grooms and in-laws still harass, torture and even kill brides over dowries. Rising affluence has only worsened the avarice. The practice of dowry in India goes back thousands of years. Its original intent, scholars say, was to protect women."

The article includes statistics for the violence against women in India: "In 2005, the most recent year for which figures are available, a woman was killed over dowry every 77 minutes in India, according to the National Crime Records Bureau. The total of such homicides was 6,787, but experts suspect that the true figure is much higher, because many dowry killings are not reported. Even when they are, most of the killers go unpunished."

Here's the article:

My friend Jessica has dreams, but they are horribly ones. She usually wakes up crying, or kicking, or screaming. Her dreams are about herself and the guy she likes.

I want to have dreams. I haven't had a dream in about three weeks. I like this guy, (actually it's my bestfriend's twin brother), Justin, and I want to have a dream with him in it. Anything. But I never have any dreams. The last dream I had was that Justin was going to ask me to wear his football jersey, which happened four weeks ago.

Why haven't I had any more dreams?

I have a friend who has a seven year old son and they wanted to put him on meds because he pulled a girls' hair, kicked another girl when she called him a baby, and tore some girls notebook... I told him not to sign the diagnosis papers no matter what. The doctors and school officials were totally mad he would "refuse to act in his sons interests" but I was proud he saved his child from those b..ches. When boys are just being boys, women go... oh he's antisocial, he's a predator! Dont you think they are overreacting and hurting our boys?

I know there is a difference in the degree of mutilation, but can't we all agree that both are forms of mutilation forced upon those that have no choice.

My question starts off with a short story, bear with me please.
My cousin's girlfriend gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on Sept. 21. When I came to visit the doctor was disscussing circumsion with Amanda (gf) and Chris (my cuz). He warned them that it was an awful experince for their son and he will be in pain for several days.
When the doctor left we, Chris, Amanda, my other cousin Linds got into a discussion about how painful it was. Linds, who has a 4 year old son was telling them of her experience with her son and warning them that it is intense to see your baby in that much pain. But she was still for the circumcision. I expressed my opinion that when I have children that I'm not getting them circumcised.
They immediately turned on me, despite the fact that I have done research on both FGM and circumcision.

I have always been surrounded by diversity in school & where I live and while growing up, I think I must have been color blind as I never attached any significance to a person's skin color & was comfortable in my own skin & with everyone around me.

Now that I work in the corporate world, where it is predominantly white (I am not btw), I feel out of place & am extremely uncomfortable with myself & when dealing with white people. Whenever I interact with a white co-worker(outside my department), I get the sense that they automatically don't like me from initially meeting, which I immediately attribute to my not being white.

So - are white people uncomfortable dealing with people who don't look like them? Or are they uncomfortable around me b/c they sense that I am uncomfortable with them?

What is wrong with me? What should I do to "fix" myself?

Thank you.
