They always hold everyone up because someone has to carry them and they are always being chased by nasty types who wish them harm.
Maybe it would help if they didn't wear stiletto heels, frilly bikinis and demand stop offs for retouching lipstick ?

Weeeel, to be fair, 'broken ankles' are more likely 'sprained' than yer actual 'broken.' But of course, it is a countless times used cliche which would spoil badly the scripts and scenes if they didn't have 'heels' and 'frilly bikinis' etc ~ but then, women make such bloody silly choices when it comes to clothes.

Late summer sun, town centre middle England and I can see girls in those tops that don't cover those delicious 'pot' bellies that hover over minis that either have 'footless' leggings under them, or bare legs and (likely 'mock' - but) sheepskin type boots ....while the guy (still in the warm weather, remember) wears a 'Woolly hat' (the type knitted by my Grandmother 30 years ago) pulled down (sponsored by one
Mr D Beckham - silly sod) and all but covering his ears.

New Years Eve and there's ice and snow on the ground and I board a bus bound for the centre of London (on my way to work at 9.30pm), and a bunch of girls board the bus. They are heading for the celibrations in Trafalgar Square ~ wearing stiletto heels and or slingback sandals (and light coats).

'Ah, Feminism at its most glorious.'

Too right. Though I only see that in old films. The directors make them hurt their ankle so that the man can rescue them. Then they see a jungle beast like a lion or a strange hairy monster and they scream & scream. Apparently in the old films actresses had to be able to scream well to get jobs. It was all aimed at fulfilling men's fantasies. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.

Modern films, at least the ones I watch, empower the women as well as (and often more than) the men. The film companies have at last realised that if they make their films appeal to women as well as men they'll have more viewers and make more money. There are some great, butt-kicking female lead characters in:

The Alien films.
Species
Aeon Flux
Underworld
Tombraider
... & lots more.

Great question - with some very good answers that made me laugh.

This type of scene always amused me in those films especially the beautiful long tresses of the women - kept so immaculatey in those perfect jungle conditions - no shampoo, hairdryer, or stylist within 500 miles - but hair always perfect.

I was also reminded of that great song "In the Mountain Greenery" - woman and man out camping and he sings to her....

"And if you're good,
I'll look for wood,
And you can cook,
While I stand looking"

Long live Sigourney Weaver!

Those movies are made for men!! In the real world we would be doing everything skinning the animal ,cleaning it,making the fire so we could cook it while the men sit around wondering when supper will be ready !! Well they caught it !! Wow!! I think men like to think that we are helpless without them!! Now were did I leave my lipstick?? hummm!!

Amen! Someone who understands these things too.
It's because they're wussies. I think us girls should be more tougher and not in the Laura croft way. I mean tough like getting their act together, start doing some intense excersise, and stop over-worrying about what they look like

You made some great points. But maybe they hope to be carried off by a jungle beast.

Because they wear high heals. Seriously, I see women's ankles wobble in them when walking behind them down the high street. I am surprised more ankles don't get broken...It is quite insulting really because it implies woman are the weaker sex...but I agree many are fashion victims:

I didn't know women always broke their ankles when running through jungles. Maybe they just sprained it?

Your point is very valid. They ought to wear big shitkicking boots like Lara Croft (who, by the way, never falls over)
