Heck, I can sometimes influence people and get what I want without even having to use words. One day, I was at a restaurant having lunch with my friend Sherry and a kid was misbehaving at the next table. I gave the kid my "Don't make me come over there and discipline you" look and the kid settled down. The kid sat back down in her chair and kept shooting me nervous looks throughout the rest of the meal.
Sherry was amazed and impressed. I explained that it only worked because somebody, maybe the kid's grandmother, had already trained the kid to know what "the look" meant. It was obviously not something the kid learned from her mother, who was blissfully oblivious to what the kid had been doing to annoy Sherry and me.
Yes, I can influence people and get what I want using only words.
