I hear this insect when it's hot during the summer. It temporarily "hums"... like a high, strange note on a harpsicord or something, I don't know how else to describe it. What bug does this? And how - by rubbing its feet together!? I've asked several people and they don't know. Who can help me? This has been bugging me for years!

If,as claimed, flies have incredible eyesight in almost any direction, why do they struggle to find their way out of a room with an enormous window left open?

My family and I are moving to the LV area. An old co-worker once told me that on the highways in Nevada, there are big swarms/schools of tarantulas. I was absolutely frightened when they told me as I am deathly afraid of spiders.
They said that these big schools of tarantulas migrate across the desert and all you can see is this big black shadow which is all of the spiders.

Well since I am moving to Nevada, I am starting to worry. I know it sounds silly but is this whole thing about the tarantulas true? Are there really big school of tarantulas that roam the desert?

About two weeks ago, I noticed an army ant wandering around the base of my toilet. Being a "junior entymologist" I just left him alone. But he has been no further than 16 inches away from the base of the toilet--FOR TWO WEEKS! It has gotten to the point where I want to take him outside into the field and let him join a freakin' colony or something already. He is always there! Could he be waiting for his comrades so he can let them know he has found water? Why doesn't he go away? Seriously, no stupid answers, please!

If so, how do they know it?

And if so, how do we know that they know it?

I've heard this before...that animals can tell when it's going to rain...have you ever heard this before?

Do they have a different sense than we humans? Could it be instinct?

There're yolkless eggs -- they are obviously unfertilized and are anomalies.

But what about normal commercially produced eggs?
