The dog is a mammal in the order Carnivora. Dogs were first domesticated from wolves less than 15,000 years ago according to BBC news[1], or perhaps as early as 100,000 years ago based upon recent genetic fossil and DNA evidence [2][3]. In this time, the dog has developed into hundreds of breeds with a great degree of variation. For example, heights at the withers range from just a few inches (such as the Chihuahua) to roughly three feet (such as the Irish Wolfhound), and colours range from white to black, with reds, greys (usually called blue), and browns occurring in a tremendous variation of patterns.

So that would be a yes!

Probably. Most dog breeds descended from either wolves, or some other wild dog. Mostly wolves though. They look nothing alike, but that's what centuries of selective breeding can do.

Every single dog in the world traces its liniage back to just six siberian she-wolves. Even Chihuahuas.

They did, as all dogs did, but they are the least genetically similar dog compared to all wolves (but some dogs are so similar with wolves that scientists have trouble telling the difference between the genetic codes.)
Let me just put it this way: a chimpanzee shares 99.9% of its DNA with humans. So chimpanzees are to humans as wolves are to dogs. Well, most dogs. I think.

Technically they had to.... But the wolves had to come before the dogs. A classic case of chicken or the egg, eh?

actually chihuahuas are a breed created from a mixture of cat with rat. that's why they do not clasify as dogs but as a subspecies!!! just joking, although if you take a good look at them...

I know that, in the wild, they'd hunt in packs. Descend from wolves? If they did, 'compacted from' would probably work better.

No, chihuahuas evolved from rats.
