I found this on the internet and I guess zebras are black with white stripes by the sounds of it
Zebras are generally thought to have white coats with black (sometimes brown) stripes. That's because if you look at most zebras, the stripes end on their bellies and toward the insides of the legs, and the rest is all white. However (there had to be a catch, right?), some zebras are born with genetic variations that make them all black with white stripes, or mostly dark with the striped pattern only on part of their coats. And as it turns out, zebras have black skin underneath their hair.

The skin is a black color ....their hair is white with black strips...how can you tell? Well when the zebra is very young it has white hair and then some hair folicles darken (due to the dark skin) as they grow older and by the time they are like 2 they have black stripes

Zebras have black skin with white stripes. You can read up on it in any science book, or if you want, just look at the hairless part of a zebra's nose; black!

They typically have black skin with white stripes. If you'll look at this picture, you'll see that his muzzle is black, as is the skin around his eyes. Usually looking at the muzzle will give you an idea of what color his skin is all over. At least that seems to be the case with horses. They do have white fur with black stripes, usually, if that's what you mean. But the skin itself is black.

The zebra evolved from a black animal, therefore it's black with white stripes. If you shaved all the zebra's hair, you will get a black animal.

HEY! I just saw this on "Animal Planet", not too long ago.
The mystery has been solved for us and I was quite surprised!
They have black skin with black and white striped hair.
I was stunned because I always thought they're skin was white.
Really. This is the right answer. I just recently saw in on TV.
Also, about their HAIR, it TOO is black with white stripes.
To ME, it looks like it should be the other way around but I'll take the zebra experts word for it! They have more white on their faces and their underbelly but they say they are black with white stripes.
Wild. huh?
