Most biologists believe dogs are descendents of "tamed" wolves, but no one can be sure. Wolves, coyotes and domestic dogs are so closely related that they can interbreed with fertile offspring.

I checked several web sites for some information on this and from the information I read I have no conclusive answer for you - one scientist stated that when breeding certain traits are sought out and those animals possessing those traits were then bred - using wolves, coyotes, and dogs - Another said that it is beleived that dogs descended from "tamed" wolves but there was no real conclusive evidence - so the answer is nobody really knows!

No Wolves tend to be just in the northern hemisphere. There are many dogs types that were only found naturally along the equator or in the Southern Hemisphere. Dingos in Australia are a wild dog much like the Wolves are, but they are only found in Australia.

Also most of the dog varieties that are considered breeds were never in the wolf line. Most of the breeds we see today were bred from their unique wild versions that no longer exist.

Australian SHEPHERDS are *not* dingos. Australian SHEPHERDS aren't even AUSTRALIAN - they were developed right here in the USA - California actually.
What we here in the US call a dingo isn't really a dingo either. The dingo was used as PART of the developing Australian Cattle dog aka Queensland heeer aka red heeler/blue heeler.
There are several kinds of wild dogs besides wolves.
