There are several spiders that can be green. One
of the most likely in England is Micrommata
virescens in the family Sparassidae. Some crab
spiders (family Thomisidae) or long-jawed spiders
(Tetragnatha) are also green. The color of some
spiders can vary depending on what they have been eating. An illustration of the Micrommata is
in the Larousse Guide to Spiders.

I have them every year in my garden, but mine are large and aggressive. I usually just leave them alone and we get along fine. And just recently I found a very pale green spider under on of my garden pots, I think it was probably just lacking some pigmentation.
Here's a site that might help you locate a name:

Garden spiders quite often adapt to their surroundings, wolf spiders in particular. A wolf spider found up a mountain will be much larger than one found in a garden. They also change colour to adapt to their surroundings but it takes a few generations for this to take effect.

Oooh, I've seen spiders like that here in FL too. Pretty cool. I don't know what they are, but I thought maybe the color had something to do with the stage of development they were in (like maybe they're not fully mature)?
