My girlfriends car is stuck in her parking spot thanks to a large pile of snow and ice left behind by the snow plows. As usual she has waited until the last minute and is now asking for my help. The snow is more like ice now and is hard as a rock. My neighbors have broken 2 shovels trying to dig their cars out and I can see why. I was thinking about the effect that salt has on snow and ice and started wondering what would happen if I dissolved salt into extreamly hot water. I'm not stupid enough to pour just hot water on the snow because I know that will just freeze and make things even worse. Will extreamly hot salt water, with a high concentration of salt, speed up the reaction that snow has with salt or will I simply end up with a mountain of solid ice? I'm not terribly concerned about the long-term, I just want to get her car out more efficiently than breaking a couple shovels. I will park it in one of the clear spots once it is out. Thanks!

Could global warming be the reason for extreme winter in US this year? Every year winter is getting colder and the summer is getting warmer. Seems like what Al Gore said in "The Inconvenient Truth" is true. If this goes on, all the ice bergs in the artic would be history and all land would be under water.. like in the movie "Waterworld". Is the government doing anything about this at all?

So in the northeast - such as upstate New York - what do they do with all the snow once it's been plowed off the road. Is it just left on the side of the road, or is it picked up and taken elsewhere?

Hey you all,

I have a quick question and need some quick advice. This is quite funny, but a hard lesson learned. So I just moved to Virginia, from Texas, and don't know much about this snow stuff. Well it snowed yesterday and I didn't get to shovel, soooo it's frozen! The snow on my driveway is frozen, I left my car out, so the snow on it has turned to ice as well. What are my neighbors thinking, "gee Texans!" lol! I'm a teacher so I've been off the past two days, but tomorrow I may have to get back to work, but everything is frozen! Any ideas?? Boiling water, lol, any kind of chemicals? Help! Thank you so very much!

I know I am sick of this weather. It was really bad yesterday. Windy and cold. We haven't had much of a winter because of the ozone layer being messed up but it hit us all the sudden. I'm ready to put up my long sleeve shirts, jackets and winter cloths and pull down my summer clothes. I just can't stand winter. I am looking forward to springtime and that means an extra hour of sunlight. All I want to do is stay inside it's so cold. How about you?

My brother asked me this while we were skiing. We were sitting in a valley and the temperature was well over zero degrees C. If snow is ice and ice melts at this temperature, why didn't it look like it was going anywhere in a hurry?

i'm in Wisconsin, and with the news always talking about global warming, i look outside and we had a high of zero most of last week, and it's still freezing. Then you got New York who's piled under at least ten feet of snow.

When people are talking about CO2 immishions, they talk about America and her cars (i got a little Ford escort, not a Tank-like Hummer). Wouldn't coal make more CO2 (since burning carbon would put more carbon dioxide into the air)?

Some countries like China are burning way more coal than we are, but with that Kyoto plan, USA needs to reduce our coal usage, but China is given even more leeway, does that make sence?

So i guess my questions can be summed up with
1.) If we are suffering from global warming, WHY ISN'T IT GETTING WARMER??
and
2.) If global warming really is a real threat, why doesn't the world focus on the biggest purpetrators, instead of the country with the most money?
wow this is a long question, i'm sorry.
