Hey you all,

I have a quick question and need some quick advice. This is quite funny, but a hard lesson learned. So I just moved to Virginia, from Texas, and don't know much about this snow stuff. Well it snowed yesterday and I didn't get to shovel, soooo it's frozen! The snow on my driveway is frozen, I left my car out, so the snow on it has turned to ice as well. What are my neighbors thinking, "gee Texans!" lol! I'm a teacher so I've been off the past two days, but tomorrow I may have to get back to work, but everything is frozen! Any ideas?? Boiling water, lol, any kind of chemicals? Help! Thank you so very much!

DO NOT THROW BOILING WATER ON THE CAR! Ok, now that I said that (hot water can shatter your windows), if you have a snow brush, get as much off of the car as you can. If you don't have one, use a broom to sweep the car off (please try not to scratch the car). If you can get the car door open, start it up with the defrost on and the rear defrost. It'll probably take 10-15 minutes to warm up and get the ice off the windows, but it works. If the car door is frozen shut, a little trick of mine is yank it open (be careful of the door handle). Next, put graphite along the door frame so that it won't freeze shut again for a while. As for the snow in the driveway, you can drive through it, but just take your time and be careful. Give yourself twice the distance to stop and don't hit the brakes or gas hard at all, because that'll make you slide. Hope this helps, and sorry about the length of this answer.

This person from the coooold weather will help you out, I hope for your sake, literally. #1. Throw salt or ice melt on your driveway. Salt is far cheaper!! If you've bought your house, ice melt is kinder to concrete. In this desperation, I'd go for salt. Depending on the length/width of your driveway, you will need ALOT!!!!!! Get 50-100 lbs.(also depends on if you are city or rural!) Next, your car. Attempt nothing while your driveway is a sheet of ice. Very dangerous!!!! Especially when your car is also ice, you will slip and fall right underneath it!!! When you have a melted patch (pile that salt up as much as you have to!) by the driver's door, use super hot water, biggest pans you can carry at one time (so it's not refreezing in between, that's why I'm not saying boil) start above where your door begins and pour away. (I hope you have 2 sets of keys!!) Once you can get in.... and you will have to do some tugging, as your locks and handles will also be frozen!....start the car, put on all of your heat full blast, defrosters ist, so you get the glass warm. Don't forget rear defrosters. After you've done all this, take a towel/rag and dry off your driver's door and go take all your boots, gloves, hat, scarf, etc. off and get warm and relax for a good 20 min. to 1/2 hr. before you even check it.DO NOT EVER get frustrated and beat on your glass with the side of a snow scraper.

you need to get in a cab to the drug store or target. You need a shovel and a ice scraper with a brush. Just brush the snow off and use the scrpaer for the windows

With the driveway, try to get as much of the snow off as possible. Then once you've done that, then put some salt down on the driveway to melt whatever's left. You can get salt at hardware, home improvement, or most retail stores.

I'm from Manitoba, Canada - so I've had some experience with this - can't you just turn the defrost on in your car and let it run for 15 minutes before leaving - you really just need to get the ice off of your windshield and windows...

And to think, you're teaching our kids. Ask the kids tomorrow what they would do. I bet they give you some pretty intelligent answers.
