if its sunny you can get a tan.

if you go to the mountains and go skiing, even though it is freezing, with the sun out, you can get a tan.

It's not so much the temperature but the intensity of the sun.

As others have rightly said, it is possible to get a tan even in cold conditions. I do a lot of mountain climbing and one thing that we have to protect against is snow-burn - it's the same as sunburn but is caused by the suns rays bouncing off the snow.

The important thing is the intensity of the sun. The clearer the atmosphere and the higher in the sky the sun is the more intense it will be.

During the summer months the sun makes a high arc in the sky whereas in winter the arc is much lower on the horizon. It's when the sun is high up that it's at it's most intense, as this occurs during the summer months it tends to be that tanning is associated with hot weather.

Well sunnier the day and stronger the sunlight, greater the tan. 56 degrees'F rather low. But I guess you can get a tan in the afternoon when the temperatures are high. About 70 degrees is essential for a good tan.

Although relative Heat indicates a strong amount of Ultraviolet Radiation, temperature itself has little to do with it. The Amount of UV exposure causes the tan, which is really a light UV burn.

Similarly, you can get a sunburn on cloudy or hazy days because there are two types of UV; UV "a" and UV "b". The clouds block the "b" and you get more "a", which has a different wavelength that can burn you. Too much exposure can cause radiation poisoning.

Arc welders give off UV "a", this is why you can get a sunburn from welding. "a" doesn't really tan after the burn fades.

Yeah, i live in Florida also and you can get a tan anytime. The heat really doesnt matter. Its the UV index which is Moderate now so you may be able to tan outside today. Just head to the beach and you'll be cool

temperature doesn't have anything to do with it. yes you can get burnt when u ski.
but the reason why you get a good tan in the summer is because the sunlight is more concentrated on Florida. in the winter it is more concentrated on the southern hemisphere, while you get the less intensive sun light.

Temperature has nothing to do with it. You can get sunburn on a frosty day. It is exposure to the sun that does it. In the winter the sun's rays are not so strong so you have to be out longer.
