I've never been hit but have been told that there is a tingly feeling like the hairs standing on end.

Savannah, Ultimately it is your physical location that is of utmost importance and should be considered as a sign that you may experience a lightning strike. If storms are occuring, if they are visible, if you are a prominent high point in an otherwise open area, or if you are in close proximity to such high points such as trees, you may experience a lightning strike. If any of these conditons exist DON"T wait until you smell ozone or the hair on your head begins to rise -- that may well mean you are too late. What you are after is prevention. Discharges are cloud to ground, ground to cloud, and cloud to cloud. Keep these things in mind and you will be much safer.

Nothing really.

A bit of tingling on the skin, hair standing up, etc may indicate that there is the threat of electrical activity in your general area, but that's it for most people.

My partner feels it in her joints, but that's because of arthritis.

Myself, I can often smell a change in the air, extra ozone before lightning happens.

You have to remember, lighting doesn't come down, it is electrical discharge FROM THE GROUND TO THE CLOUDS.

I have heard that the hairs will stand up on your arms, I suppose you would feel the static in the air.

Well I would think that if you experience loud noise, wet feeling on your head, and the wind in your hair, that should be a clue....come in out of the rain!
