Ms. Johnson, an automobile whiplash victim, has been suffering spinal shock, but is looking forward to complete recovery. One night on evening rounds, her nurse discovered her in a fetal position, her body drenched with sweat. She was incontinent of feces and urine and her blood pressure was dangerously high. After a while, she was stabilized. How could these events happen and what is this response called?

My 3 1/2 year old son has epilepsy and had a seizure last night. He woke this morning with what I believe is pain in his head. He was holding his head and crying. I gave him Tylenol and it has seemed to relieve the pain. BUT, he has slept most of the day today. Any suggestions?

I can't decide on getting the Littman Cardiology III or the Master Cardiology stethoscope.

Which do you all have and prefer? Any ups or downs to each particular one? I've tried and used both but not constantly enough to be able to decide which one I want.

Let me know what you think. Thanks a million !

I guess I don't understand how a drug could potentially be dangerous for someone, like a pregnant mother or a small child, that the drug company adds that caveat of "talk to your doctor". Do this mean that yeah, the drug is still dangerous, but if the Doctor says it's ok, then somehow the medication then becomes safe to take?

Are Pharmeseutical companies just passing the buck here?
"Look, we told you not to take it, but if some quack MD said it was ok, then, hey, it's not our fault?"

Thanks.

I've never taken any biology courses, so this is kind of a shot in the dark.

Obviously there are more than one, but do we know Any biological, neurological processes that can be put in terms of a mathematical function? I know that there are different types of systems in the nervous system... i'm just wondering what determines the output given the input, in other words what happens to the action potential as it travels through an individual neuron. Perhaps they've measured such in individual giant squid neurons?

With over 100 billion neurons, i can't imagine the process needs to be too significant in order to achieve emergence, yet i really have no idea what types of processes can turn raw data into sensation, perception, and awareness...

Thanks!
