well first you should have a back ground in backpacking/hiking and the other outdoor endevours as well as classes for differant regions i've taken the mountian desert snow and beach survival classes i still lack the ocean/sea survival but yea there are classes and depending on the envrioment your in has differance accerdations like i took most of my mountian trainning from the ama and through the seattle mountaineers either that or get lost in the woods for day and as the show your refering to there are to go ones survior man and man vs wild bear grhils is an ex british marine/paratrooper is his backgournd the survior man is a real outdoor expert and in my opinon the better show as he's alone and out there for days and days on end you watch bear he just trucks it outta there and does some pretty risky stuff just like running down the sides of mountians and things youd never want to do that in real life as even a sprined ankel could cost you your life yea so with the shows man bears like the flashy high production value show and the other one is more real they both have good info though also if you dont want to take the classes there are plenty of books but if you want to be an expert you need teh classes and the certs which are also good for working for guiding companies and teaching classes of your own

Read books about survival and living in the wilderness.
Buy this book: 98.6 Degrees: The Art of Keeping Your A** Alive.

Go hiking, backpacking and spend as much time as you can in the outdoors. There are many websites about survival and living in the outdoors.

There should be some outdoor clubs in your area. Contact "The Sierra Club." They have hiking and backpacking trips. Choose an "easy" trip for your first time.

Yes. Based on statistics, it is highly likely that you are not in the 10% of humans that will survive a cataclysmic event. Don't worry, 90% of the population is with you, including me. The human is just too dumb to survive nowadays. That 10% of the population are those who still live in tribes and in the worst conditions the earth has to offer.
