today in psychology we were talking about the two brain hemispheres and we watch a video on a guy with epilepsy and to control it they seperated his left hemisphere from his right. the treatment worked but how do doctors know that taking a risk with such a delicate and essential part of the body wont result in death or other problems? i mean they have to experiment some how dont they? so what do they experiment on animals such as primates since they are the closest thing to us? or do they experiment on human beings?

if you want to work at a small hospital that has about one main person in each field of surgery, you can be both an obstetrician and a neonatal surgeon. my question is, would you do your residency to become a pediatrician? and also i would think that you would have to do a fellowship for both of them but could you complete your fellowship as a neonatal surgeon and right then start one as an obstetrician?

For a research grant, I need a reputable information source that provides the number of children who die each year from life-threatening/life-limiting illnesses (or at least children who are diagnosed with these conditions). I have found some statistics from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network, cancer websites, etc., but I'm still looking for more. Any suggestions on where I can look? I also have access to scholarly journal databases (i.e., PubMed, PsycInfo) if you know of any article references. Thanks!

I've been thinking about getting my vision corrected with laser. Does anyone know about how much it would cost and how risky it would be? (I currently have no medical conditions with my eyes except that I can't see anything beyond a foot of me)
