After the expiration date, it is more likely to have grown nasty bacteria in it. That could make your problem worse. Also, I don't think the drug itself is stable after a year.

Drugs have an expiration date for a reason, they break down over time and lose their efficacy. Some drugs also begin to become toxic, due to bacterial growth. The best advice would be to throw out the drugs you have and get new ones.
