I even recently saw on the discovery channel an idea that uses magnets for brakes so there would be no friction, somthing like that would work perfectly to generate more power when using the brake.

I need to make one for school. I am not exactly sure what my project will be so I need general info on working drawings.

Do working drawings have a basic structure? Do they include a basic sketch of the project? Do they include every single detail about the project? How much detail? Any tips?

I will be going to England, and need to know if I need a "step-down" converter for a hair dryer and flattening brush AND a seperate one for an iPod charger and cell phone. I know I need the adapter plug, but wasn't sure about the voltage converter. Also, which is the best quality brand? Thanks!

I know it may sound dumb, but is there any possible way to set up a lightning rod and connect it to something that could capture the energy from the strike and reuse it for consumer use?

There really isn't a category for this but there should be one for R/C aircraft. I have the micro helicopters and am considering making the blades.

It's a simple matter to reproduce the angle and cover it with the vinyl material for this purpose.

They make carbon composite blades for strength and lightness. They also make blades out of balsa because it's light and cheap. I'm considering using a hardwood. Considering how well that terns out as a start, the balsa wood is pretty cheap to buy. Basically, one has to have a table saw and router to create this little blades. I think the extra weight of the hardwood won't keep it from getting off the ground.

I'm wondering about altering the design. What I'm thinking of doing, is making the blades shorter so that they have less lift and the response will be slower and less prone to over-flying, just for learning.

I believe that if I made the blades wider and/or longer, it would be more for the motor to turn.

PLEASE explain how air fires can create molten metal in an
oxygen starved environment (open air, 101.3 kPa)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa7PN-8T2VY

Also consider the important questions at:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070821154616AAqOpIO&r=w

and

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070821070257AAUAhWC&r=w

Apparantly, some very dumb people on TV (even some here)
want us all to believe that air fires can melt steel, and totally
weaken giant buildings to the point of complete collapse,
even causing unburned, undamaged, unheated structural
beams (not exposed to fire) to fail and turn into molten metal.

FACTS:

Melting point of steel = 1532 C

Temperature of air fire fed by hydrocarbon fuel (even jet fuel
which is highly refined kerosene) = 250 C

(due to limited available oxygen in 1 atm or 1 Bar or 101.3 kPa
open air)

Do not bother answering this post unless you have an
explanation for the molten metal evidence.

Hello! My husband is gearing up for his onsite engineering interview with Intel. They say on the website that he should bring his CV and copies of his transcripts. Well, he isn't from the US and his transcripts are in a different language.

To all of you engineers and interviewers, since he has been working for 8 years in the field, perhaps we shouldn't spend hundreds of dollars getting his transcripts translated. My husband thinks it's not going to be an issue, as his diploma is in both languages. The gentleman who is arranging the interview didn't mention anything.

What should he do?? Just bring the resume and diploma, along with the transcripts in the foreign language or go ahead and spend the money to have them officially translated?

Is it really a non issue or is it important to translate them??
Thanks so much. I really appreciate the insights any of you involved in the industry can help with :)

I recently purchased some after market LED bulbs for my car's rear turn signals. They work fine, but now the flashers are flashing much quicker. I understand that this is because the new bulbs use less power, so the system thinks a bulb is burnt out and indicates that by flashing quicker.

Because the new bulbs require less power than what is being supplied to them, will this cause premature burnout of the new bulbs or any problems with my car's electrical system if I don’t use load resistors? I'm fine with the increased flash rate otherwise.

Car: 2000 Nissan Altima SE
Stock bulb info: Turn signal, Wattage: 27, Size: 3156K

I'm not really sure what the exact specs for the new bulbs are, but they are designed to replace 3156 size bulbs.

Thank you.

Hello,
I'd like to make my own lab power supply with the precise output of 5V for 3 Amps.
I got ahold of an old PC Power Supply and managed to manually turn it on by shorting the green wire to a COM black wire.
When I put my meter to the 5V cable, it indicates an amperage of only 1 Amp. Yet on the power supply it indicates a potential amperage of 10 Amps for 5V.
My question is how I can I get the 3 Amp output.
I intend to use it for a perchlorate production cell and connect the wires to anode and cathode.
Sorry for being so ignorant about that :-)
