I want to be able to pick sound up with only a small speaker and a diode (i have used germaniums) without any amplifier there but then a bunch of amplifiers hooked up to an am transmitter (oscillator) with the input being an ipod. is this possible? So all-in-all, an ipod goes thru a bunch of amplifiers, then to the am transmitter, travels thru the air in highpower freq.'s and is picked up by a diode attached to a speaker. Any suggestions or critiques? thanks a bunch

I read how Tesla's AC won out over Edison's DC because AC can be reduced with transformers. When I look at an animation of a DC generator, it looks like it's output is pulsating DC. Don't transformers work with that, ala a car's spark coil and points? Why couldn't Edison use transformers with pulsating DC from generators?

Many thanks to those who responded earlier but those answers were not quite addressing what I was looking for.

I am thinking of the case of a typical pole mounted single phase distribution xmfr with loads on both sides of the center tap. If the secondary of the transformer is center tapped and the other two leads from the secondary are going from positive to negative with the AC current, that means that the center tap is either more negative or more positive than either outside lead at any given time.

If at a given instant the top lead is positive, then the center tap is more negative than the top lead. The current should flow from the top lead to the center tap. However, isn't the center tap more positive than the bottom lead at that same instant? Wouldn't the current therefor flow out of it into the bottom lead? (assuming loads connected to both sides of the tap) Flowing inward from the top lead and outward to the bottom lead at the same time. How does that work?

The tetrahedron will be sort of distorted. Two out of the four triangular sides will be made out of the back and the bottom of the cube. If looking straight at the bottom/ back edge of the cube, the two triangles of the tetrahedron should look like this: <|>. The line in the middle represents the edge.
I really need help cutting the other two triangular sides which slope down in a weird way.

What direction does the current flow? It looks like the current in the tap would have to flow in two directions at once since the tap is both more positive and more negative than either end of the winding at any given moment.
