it reduces the RF bandwidth requirements to the absolute minimum by eliminating redundant sidebands. with the carrier supressed, more of the available transmitter power output can be applied to the sideband alone, which results in better efficiency. Narrow BW systems have better S/N for a given transmitter power, resullting in more reliable or distant communication to the receiver.
