I heard that it's gonna be in complete alignment with the sun, the moon and the 'birth canal' of the Milky Way or something like that? Supposedly this only happens once every 26,000 years or around that number correct? I also heard that when this happens the Earth will turn upside down, like Canada will be were South America is and vice versa, is that true?

What exactly is supposed to happen in 2012?

Why do we spend so much money on manned and un-manned space slights when so much can be learned about our universe in other ways?

Such as: Large telescopes in orbit, building accelerators, etc.

imagine one night an ufo full of cool aliens would open your window and take you with them... and imagine (even if is not possible.. it's viceversa) you would spend a week or so with them in a lot of galaxies.. and they will bring you back ...(just one seconde later in the earth time).
who would believe you? and.. how this would change you ?
just let your imagination to fly in answering this.

When is the LHC going to be fully operational and how soon can we expect results from new experiments?

Also are we planning on building a new collider of our own?

You would think we could "go in with it" with countries like Japan and South Korea who probably would be interested in a joint venture.

We are going to be left behind by the Europeans in high particle and cosmological research.

We send probes on basically a universal plane. Basically, exploring the universe on a horizontal axis. Why not vertically? is it possible? Or does the universe reside on a plane that can only be explored horizontally?
