well....ordinarily, I wouldn't even think about it, but with this Mayan calendar thingy and 2012 just around the corner, I think I'll just get some beer and pretzels and turn on a football game and STILL NOT THINK ABOUT IT.
What kind of "influence" other than gravitational, do you think it could possibly be having on us? Every time this question comes up it seems to be brought up by people who believe anything, written by anyone.
You know, I read that if enough people send money to someone they don't know, the world will be saved from the curse of the galactic center lining up with the planets of the star Voltar. It was a Mayan thing and we all KNOW how frickin smart the Mayans were, DON'T WE??? So, since you don't know me, send 1/4 of your paycheck for the next five years to me and mumble something about galactic centered Mayans having mercy on the poor planet Earth.
okay, I feel much better now. It's better to rant than to keep it all inside, bottled up where it will eventually have more effect on our solar system and its inhabitants than the galactic center.

The influence is limited to its gravity keeping our Sun and its whole solar system from escaping from the galaxy. It also has a very small influence on the orbits of the planets. Kind of like galactic tides, but much weaker than the tides that the Moon causes on Earth. The influence does not change from year to year or suddenly shift in any one year. It is a constant influence.

gravity was the initiator of the galaxy but it now plays a minor roll.
gravity maintains the solar systems in the outer arms .
All galaxies are in a state of accelerated collapse.
The galactic center contains neutron density matter and this is what drives it.
A galaxy collapsing at an accelerated rate would produce a red shift that could be interpreted as the galaxy accelerating away.

Galactic center contains most of the mass in the galaxy. The gravity is greater there than anywhere else in the galaxy. Since we are located 30,000 light years from galactic center, our solar system has a perfect balance that gives our planet the capability to spark and maintain life. What a wonderful place to be- in an outer spiral arm of the Milky Way!

It's just a spot that we orbit; other than that, there's not much influence.
