The cost today would still be many billions of dollars and nobody wants to go badly enough to spend that much money.

People think that because computer technology has gotten millions of times better and cheaper, that rocket technology must have too. But it hasn't. Neither has airplane or car technology. A computer today costs a thousand times less and is a thousand times (at least) more capable than a computer of 1970. But a car or airplane or rocket today is not (much) more capable than one of 1970 and it costs MORE than it did back then. You can't go to the Moon with just a computer, you need the rocket, and it is just too expensive. We won the space race and beat the soviets to the Moon. People think, been there, done that, don't waste the money. Some people that is. There are some who want to go again, and if you are not too old you will see a return to the Moon in your life time.

It was more than likely a hoax by the Americans to beat the Russians at the time. They may have sent space ships there but i dont think it was possible back in the 60s for a man to make it. The Russians came first in every part of the space race except for the so called maned moon landings. And the Americans hate losing to the communists

It's a "been there, done that" type of thing. The 1960s was highlighted by the "space race." Both the Soviet Union and the US were trying to be the first in space, the first to put a man in space and the first to land on the moon, among other milestones. Once the US won the race to the moon, there was little reason to keep returning other than a few expedition to gain more information.

It is a large airless rock with murderous temperature extremes. It costs MANY billions of dollars ( in todays dollars about 100 billion dollars ) to get there and back and there is nothing that justifies doing so. Its not even useful militarily. We went because Kennedy had made it a national goal, and his assassination made it a national imperative. Once we landed a couple of times, the american people lost interest and the remaining missions were cancelled.
