I heard that it's gonna be in complete alignment with the sun, the moon and the 'birth canal' of the Milky Way or something like that? Supposedly this only happens once every 26,000 years or around that number correct? I also heard that when this happens the Earth will turn upside down, like Canada will be were South America is and vice versa, is that true?

What exactly is supposed to happen in 2012?

what is supposed to happen is a broad question. do you mean what educated and logical people and scientists think is going to happen? or what dumb asses that make up and believe these things?

because its scientifically impossible to just flip the earth upside down unless a huge comet comes and hits earth. and if it is powerful enough to flip earth upside down then its going to completely knock earth off of its orbit. and there is nothing that big anywhere near earth besides a planet.

and think about the first part. the sun and the galactic center are always in a line. and the earth orbits the sun once a year. so they are lined up once every year.

the number 26,000 comes from the nemisis theory, it says there is a brown dwarf far away from the sun that orbits it once every 26,000 years. but thats just not true. we would detect its gravity and we orbit the sun 2 so we wouldve been able to see it.

nothing unusual will happen on december 21 2012, or any other date in 2012.

EDIT that pertains to the dude that talked about the mayans:

THE MAYAN CALENDAR DOESNT END IN 2012!!!!!!! i hate that misconception sooooo much. it starts a new count. a count is just a phase, its like going from 2007 to 2008. sure its a new date but it doesnt mean that it will be different than the other or that the world will end. look into it, i have talked to people that have studied the mayan calendar and i have researched it myself. they do not predict the end of the world!

>What's supposed to happen to the Earth in 2012?

The same thing that is supposed to happen in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. Which is to say, nothing.

>I heard that it's gonna be in complete alignment with the sun, the moon and the 'birth canal' of the Milky Way or something like that? Supposedly this only happens once every 26,000 years or around that number correct?

Could be.

>also heard that when this happens the Earth will turn upside down, like Canada will be were South America is and vice versa, is that true?

No. The amount of energy required to shift the continents around all of a sudden like this is absolutely enormous and there is no known source of energy, either natural or artificial, that scientists are expecting to do that. It IS true that sometime in the next few thousand years we will experience a pole reversal, but all that means is that compasses will point the other way; the continents themselves will all remain in the same places, and there will be no catastrophic disaster associated with the event.

People have been predicting the end of the world for thousands of years. Planetary alignments are one of the most common culprits. They have happened many times before, and each time someone says it will mean disaster. It never happens.

There is no such thing as a Milky Way "birth canal". It would take an impact with something almost the size of the Moon to cause the Earth to actually flip upside down, and there are no objects that size on a collision course with Earth for the foreseeable future.

I've heard some people saying that the Mayan calendar ends in 2012, so that means the Earth will end too. The calendar on the inner cover of my bankbook only goes up to the year 2009 and no further, so should I be worried?

Predictions without solid evidence to back them up are worthless.

In 2012 our sun will be aligned with the galactic equator, something that has happened over and over again throughout Earth's history without anything at all happening.

For God's sake...don't listen to the absurd nonsense that some unschooled morons pump out all the time.

Yes, from what I have read about 2012, this is along the lines with what people say would happen. Everything will be in alignment and create some sort of vortex, which will cause the earths magnetic poles to reverse. These pole reversals have taken place with earth several times as we know during the paleolithic era. Scientists can date archaeological artifacts based on the magnectic qualities of the layer of rock it was found, because they know that certain magnectic qualities correlate with the earth's center of gravity at a specific time in history. Sorry, I was just reading about this...

that's the tip of the 5125-365 days-long cycle in the Mayan long count selection calendar, supposedly. fairly some different issues, as properly. fairly, in line with each and every of the doomsday theories, the international might desire to've ended over one hundred circumstances in the previous century. despite if or no longer you like to have self assurance the theories is thoroughly as much as you.

The USA will be invaded by the Kenyans who will score a run of extraordinary and unexpected victories in battles fought in the streets of Plainfield, Connecticut and Taos, New Mexico. This will result in the USA being run by a puppet government. This government will summarily execute all owners of Hummers, firearms and distributors of pornography, street drugs, hamburgers and shampoo. This victory will be complete by 21 December 2012. This is all predicted in the stars and is about as likely as the drivel promoted by the 2012 people..

the mayans did not say it would be 'the end'. Just the beginning of a new cycle. A new cosmic cycle. I believe the human race is going through some fundamental changes, realisations, and growths. 2012 will, for those that want it to, mark the dawn of a new era. Make of it what you want. But don;t wait for anything parnormal to happen, apart from the sun erupting a bit (I think its going to be a bit mad at all of us by then, and will show us a thing or two about our 'advanced technologies')... But mainly, the changes that happen will be the changes you yourself make.

According to the Mayan callender, 2012 is the year the world will end. Many people also think aliens will come in this year or that an asteroid wil collide with earth this year. I haven't heard anything of the earth turning upside down though. If you would like to read about 2012 theories go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012

This would be the same as saying that since this year's calendar ends on December 31, 2007, then the world will come to an end.
