Or in general, the similarities between the atom and planetary bodies.

according to the maya calendar and that of other ancient peoples, some celestial event is supposed to happen that will change life on the earth on (maya) 12-21-2012, or according to one authority, in october 2011.

would anything cause the earth to wobble instead of stay steady on its axis?

will there be a huge solar flare, and if that is scheduled to take place then, what could happen to the earth?

will there be any special alignment of our solar system with the center of our galaxy, the milky way?

what physical proof exists that conforms with predictions based on the maya calendar?

could current global warming that is not caused by human activity be caused by changes that are beginning to happen now as they relate to december 21, 2012 or october 2011?

what sorts of weather changes could be experienced as a result of some special alignment of our solar system with the center of the galaxy, or by the earth wobbling?

Most stars are formed as gravity collapses a gas cloud. As it forms, the cloud forms a disk around it, and planets form from the disk.

Ok my friends and I got into this really deep conversation about the universe today. They say that the universe is infinite, but infinity is just a concept. Does that mean that the universe is just a concept? There has to be a better way to explain the universe. We thought that maybe people say the universe is infinite because it actually has a size but it is always growing so you can never accurately measure the size at any given point. It's like the uncertainty principal in chemistry. On that note, my friend used the example when we were talking about infinity that the number of atoms that exist is infinite. I said, "No that's not true. The only reason they say that is because no one has the time to go out there and count them." That's what brought me on to the fact that the number of atoms in the world is always changing, just like the size of the universe. So does that mean that infinity is just a concept that people use because they are too lazy to go count something?

Here are the details:

Light travels at 299,792,458 m/s (the fastest speed that ANYTHING can travel), and the Earth is 150,000,000,000 m (1 Astronomical Unit) from the sun.

If the sun were to go supernova (i.e. explode), what would we see from Earth? From my albeit rudimentary calculations, we would see---for approximately 5 seconds (derived by dividing the distance between us and the sun by the speed of light)---the sun either exploding or growing extremely large (into a red giant) before we would be completely obliterated. And what a 5 second fireworks display it would be!

Can anyone back this up or offer a different argument?

A star is a huge ball of fiery (4.)_______. Deep inside the star, (5.) __________ converts matter into energy. During nuclear fusion, atoms get (6.)________, or wedges together. At the same time, a little bit of matter changes into a huge amount of (7.) ________. Nuclear fusion, also produces new kinds of elements or matter. For example, when two hydrogen atoms fuse, they become (8.)_______. When two helium atoms fuse, they become lithium, and so forth. The process continues. At the beginning, nearly all matter in the universe was (9.)_____ and helium, the simplest elements.
