If say I had a large ball representing the sun and a smaller one the earth, and I touch the balls together and made the smaller ball roll around the outside of the larger? Is this the same direction of rotation of the earth or is it rotating in reverse?

so the telescope I was going to purchase is beyond my current price range so I'm looking at a couple of other starter scopes and want your input. one is a schmidt cassegrain and the other is a maksutov cassegrain. the first is Celestron C6-A Schmidt Cassegrain OTA - XLT and the second is Konus Motormax 130 OTA. the konus is 1" smaller and has an F ratio of 15 vs the celestron's 10 it just I've heard that maksutovs offer better optical quality usually but then again an extra inch of objective and a slightly faster scope...........

It says that the number of extraterrestrial civilizations trying to contact us right now can be predicted by a simple equation:
N=RPNLCT where...
N is the number of civilizations
R is the number of stars formed in the galaxy each year
P is the probability that a star will have planets
N is the probability that an Earth-type planet, capable of
supporting life, is among them
L is the probability that life will actually develop on that planet
C is the probability that life will lead to a technological
civilization capable of sending radio signals into space
T is the lentgh of time for which those signals will continue to
be sent

...for example Mars here?
Anyway, is there any other candidate besides Mars to terraform here? Planet, satellites, whatever here? (No need to be in our own solar system, though!)

How about the new planet, Gliese 581 c there?
