Earth used to be just like Venus is now: lots of lava, super high tempuratures, and a thick atmosphere.
But then there was this big explosion in which a mars sized object collided into earth and slowly, the Earth became what we see it as today. (and a piece of earth flew off but stayed within the gravitational pull of the Earth. This later cooled off and became known as our moon.)
Could this happen to Venus?
Could venus become another earth in the future?

I have become interested in all this galactic alignment talk from reading the many different articles. So far what I could find myself was that the last aligment took place during the ending of our last ice age.

But what happend in the one before that?

The reason for my pondering is that if I imagine the alignments as being somewhat like an earthly year where we have summer on one side and winter on the other, what did the earth look like around the alignment before our iceage?

I read a plurb in the paper about a new planet, as big as a gas giant but water ice (as appose to mercury ice?) but closer to its sun than earth to ours?

Water is frozen from extreme pressure I believe it said.

Anyhow, I can't remember much about it, but it was interesting. Recycling was taken out this morning so the paper is gone.

Can someone tell me more about it or at least info so I can search it myself. Searching "Liquid Giant Planet" didn't get me very far.

Considering that in the Universe are travelling compact packages of data about "worlds" that ceased to exist, can their garvitational interaction catch up that information by "cause and effect" and modify it thoroughly just right before they have passed away ? Even if not, can be assumed that the Universe is merely informational ? What if all those information are just altered for limitation ?
