A meteor tends to be made of rock,
A comet tends to be made of water (ice),

Also comets circle around the sun, meteors from the meteor belt on the outskirts of out solar system although they revolve around the sun, they tend to get knocked about and dont have a constant trajectory.

A meteor is a "shooting star" - a brief streak of light in the sky caused by a usually tiny bit of space rock entering Earth's atmosphere. A comet is a large chunk of rock and ice orbiting the sun. Radiation from the sun melts some of the ice, causing a cloud of glowing dust and gas around the comet nucleus. This often forms a tail streaking away from the comet.

While a meteor lasts only an instant, comets can usually be seen for a period of time ranging from several days to many weeks. Meteors often occur in predictable "showers" when Earth passes through streams of orbiting debris left behind by comets.

Meteor - a meteoroid that has entered the earth's atmosphere.

Meteoroid - any of the small bodies, often remnants of comets, traveling through space: when such a body enters the earth's atmosphere it is heated to luminosity and becomes a meteor.

Comet - a celestial body moving about the sun, usually in a highly eccentric orbit, consisting of a central mass surrounded by an envelope of dust and gas that may form a tail that streams away from the sun.
