Astronomy & Space - March 2007

Maybe we could develop some kind of technology that enables us to tow meteors and asteroids and ice/water bearing objects into the Mars atmosphere. We could increase the Marsian mass, and deposit water on the planet.
This may now seem far fetched, but a lot of great ideas was once far fetched. Mars doesn't have enough mass, nor gravitational force. we could catch two flies with one news paper. What do ya think? Any ideas anyone?

Just a while ago I saw a very bright green light with a sparking tail going down at an angle very low. It went out completely just above the ground. I was probably 50 feet away at the time. Kind of eerie! I'm just curious as to what this could be, if anyone has seen anything similar.

The Van Allen radiation belt and are bombarded by protons exceeding energies of 10 million electron volts at a rate of 3000 'hits' per square centimeter per second.

Given minimal shielding, how would you express this level of radiation in rad? How would the exposure to raditation be measured culumatively and as a rate?

Or life on this planet for that matter? Never mind that's a whole other ball of wax.

Do you think we've been visited?

i was driving home at about 8 pm heading west toward syracuse on rt 31 and saw the abslolue closest object ive ever seen fall from the sky. it was either a downed plane ( seeing that the airport was in the area) or a meteor, but this thing was big and hualin some tail. i saw it for about 4-5 seconds. funny cause now i see light in the sky in that area could be coincident though.

What I was doing was sweeping out the frustration of a 5 letter word ( My God, I dont think is actually definiable) called Space. I took a peek at the Wikipedia definitions for the word Space and like most words, this one has I believe as many meanings as there are people! But the Physics definition caught my interest, because the Wiki said that (Paraphrased) "Space is a uniform part of the structure of the universe. However, it is not definable until such time as that structure can be made more identifiable, or something better comes along!!"

Okay, I know that during after daylight savings time arrives the sun is out longer, normally it would be gone by 5:00 or so, now it does'nt go down until about 8:30. So, we set our clocks forward an hour, how does an hour forward give us 3 or 4 more hours of sunlight? And, how does congress control that? I'm NOT fully understanding the law passing and all of that stuff.
Please help.
Thanks

...especially in this space age.

I am completely amazed that people ask questions like:

Why does the moon change shape?

Where do the stars go during the day?

No wonder people are so willing to believe conspiracy stuff. If you don't know anything, I guess anything sounds feasible.
