Just a while ago I saw a very bright green light with a sparking tail going down at an angle very low. It went out completely just above the ground. I was probably 50 feet away at the time. Kind of eerie! I'm just curious as to what this could be, if anyone has seen anything similar.

Your description sounds very much like what a large meteorite called a bolide looks like as it streaks across the sky burning up as it falls toward the ground. Most meteorites are about the size of a grain of sand and make short dimmer streaks but a bolide is a larger rock that makes a much brighter streak often with pieces of it trailing behind it. I've watched many meteor showers but have never seen a bolide myself. You are very lucky to have seen one!

It does sound like a meteor. A meteorite is a meteor that has landed. But it is very possible, since your meteor went out, that it completely vaporized before it could hit the ground.
