This is actually a sample GRE problem: a quantitative comparison between sqrt(79*80*81*82) and 6400. I recognized that 6400 = sqrt(80*80*80*80) and was therefore faced with comparing 79*81*82 to 80*80*80. I got the right answer, but it was only a guess on my part. So if I didn't have a calculator handy, how could I know that 79*80*81*82 was greater than 80*80*80*80?

I know that it is NOT true, for an arbitrary integer x, that (x-1)x(x+1)(x+2) > x^4. (It doesn't, for example, work for 1, or -1, or -2, or 0.)

would it be possible to attach a thermoelectric coupling to a ammonia (absorbtion) type fridge? The TEC could absorb heat from the inside and add heat to the outside ammonia boiler, possibly not needing the gas or electric original source. The TEC would require power but overall setup may be more efficient.

I've got an idea that might help prevent megafires from happening, though I'm not sure if it's practical.

What if we sectioned out forests by creating controlled forest fires along certain latitudes and longitudes? If they air-dropped flame-retardants along the edges of these lines to make 'fireproof barriers' and then set fire to the areas within them, they could create tree-less 'forest borders'.

That way, if a forest fire were to ever happen, it wouldn't spread beyond these 'borders' and only one section of forest would be burned out therefore keeping the fire from spreading into a catastrophic megafire.

Anyone follow me on this? This is the best way I can explain it as I'm not very good at translating my thoughts into words... I might have to draw a map displaying what my ideas are to get my thoughts out.

To those that do understand, do you think it's a practical idea? It might be expensive considering how much flame-retardants would have to be used across, say, the state of California, but compare that figure to how much megafires would cost.

I used to work at a science centre. I had had no previous experience in working with wild animals. I was nervous to start but very passionate about doing well.
Unfortunately, one morning when I was misting some of the habitats and cleaning the water dishes, a small amount of bleach water had been left on the counter where I had placed one of the bowls. The following morning, one of the tree frogs had died. I understand that the gravity of one, tiny tree frog dying may not seem very bad to most of you, but where my job was concerned, I probably appeared to be unprofessional, maybe even "immature". The fact of the matter is that I took it upon myself to complete the morning tasks before everyone arrived and simply made a mistake. I was then transferred elsewhere to finish my credit.
I'm now looking to volunteer at an animal refuge centre where she also works. How should I approach this situation? What if she recognizes me and makes me look bad to everyone else? What if she mentions it?
