What Johnny doesn't tell you is that in addition to the media, Al Gore, and Hollywood, virtually EVERY significant scientific or academic organization in the ENTIRE WORLD has told us about global warming, the fact that it is caused primarily by humans, and they have all warned of its hazards.
There are NOT "many, many scientists" who object. Some that I have seen, have been hired by oil companies as disinformation / propaganda agents. One who confessed on television said he couldn't live with himself, despite the big bucks, so he quit. Others who minimize this problem are those who are either borderline in the field or not credentialed at all. They are just mimicking the position of right wing conservatives, whose bottom line for everything is corporate profits. They care more about defending the conservative radio talk show crowd than in protecting the future generations of our species.
Global warming is serious. Now that even the most die-hard critics can no longer deny the overwhelming evidence, they now retreat to the tactic of saying it isn't caused by humans. They say it is mostly a natural and harmless cycle. The evidence grossly contradicts these claims. The ultra-conservative, corporate position is this, "We are here to make money. Who cares what happens a hundred years from now? We'll all be dead." Some even say with a smirk, "Not to worry. We're going to run out of fossil fuels before it gets much worse."
I'm sure the great majority of people who parrot the denial viewpoints have no idea where those opinions originate. All they know is that denying global warming is one of the core conservative principles, so like good little Limbaugh rubes, they spout all the propaganda. They do it because they have biased all their views to fit a certain political profile that they like to identify with because it makes them feel like big shots and tough guys.
Edit: It is not happening like the ice age did, as one person said. It is happening a thousand times faster than any known natural cycle.
Acablue, you have demonstrated perfectly what I described. Now, do you know where your opinion originates? Not from science. Go look it up. On your side you'll find politically oriented blogs that mainly attack Al Gore, not the real evidence. Other sites like "Junk Science," which seems to find global warming the ONLY scientific issue worth discussing. They spend a lot of verbiage re-defining terms and re-interpreting and obfuscating data. Some, just by how they are written, that are pure propaganda. None of the sites give links to any widely respected scientific organizations. Claims, yes, but no references. If you examine these sites closely, you will see that they are all politically based and none are posted by real scientists or scientific organizations. Some still claim that global warming isn't real, while others insist it isn't caused by humans. But they are all motivated by political and economic bias, not facts.

Yes, global warming is for real. Virtually all scientists agree on that now. Some dispute that it is caused by humans, but that is actually a fairly small minority (I'd say 5% of scientists or less). It is very bad, but I actually believe that we will run out of fossil fuels before it catastrophically changes the climate. That's not really a good thing, it may result in an economic and humanitarian crisis that will be worse for humans than climate change.

Yes, it is really bad for much of life now living on earth. Especially oxygen breathers. There is a lot more to it than just temperatures getting warmer.
Here are some things to consider: Before plants started growing on land 400 million years ago or so, the atmosphere of the earth had a lot more carbon dioxide and it was a lot warmer. The air would not have been breathable by present day oxygen breathers. It was about 1500 ppm (parts per million). Plants started growing and covering the land with vegetation large and small. Those plants absorbed the carbon dioxide and gave off oxygen. The plant material, which contained the carbon died and formed new earth for more plants to grow. Over 65 million years or so, more and more plants grew and more and more of them died with the carbon still contained. This carbon built up and was put under ever more pressure by ever more plants growing on top. All of this carbon was buried and under pressure became all of the fossil fuels we are burning today - coal and oil.
When we burn these fossil fuels, we are releasing back into the atmosphere all of the carbon the was sequestered over 65 million years. We are releasing it in about 500 years. Before the industrial revolution the carbon in the atmosphere was about 280 ppm. It is now about 380 ppm. In the next 50 years or so, it will go up to 500 ppm at which point it will get harder for those of us who depend on oxygen to breathe the air.
Not only is the air becoming filled with ever more carbon making it harder to breathe, but the carbon in the atmosphere keeps the earth warmer. Warming of the earth feeds on itself. Ice in polar regions reflects sunlight back out into space. As the polar ice melts, less is reflected back.
This is not some Al Gore nonsense. It is something that is happening - it is happening now. Some of it may be part of a natural cycle, but a lot of it has to do with human activity. It is not true that most or even a lot of scientists don't "believe in" global warming. If one is found somewhere, the deniers tout one person as equal to 10,000 who disagree.

Yes, global warming is real, and there is very good evidence that human activities are contributing to it, chiefly through the production of CO2 and other greenhouse gasses.
However, the most alarmist predictions about its effects, such as huge rises in sea level or a "runaway greenhouse effect," are rather far-fetched. The consequences of global warming will not be immediate. But, if the release of greenhouse gasses isn't curbed, they will be severe, for our great-great grandchildren.
The biggest problems are related to the melting of polar ice caps. As they melt, they produce a layer of cold, fresh water that flows into temparate zones. Will it flood coastal cities? No. Sea level will probably only rise about 6 inches in the next 100 years. (This WILL have huge impacts on salt marshes, however.)
But some oceanic models show that this will significantly alter ocean currents such as the gulf stream. Paradoxically, this will cause colder winters in temparate zones, and will also reduce the amount of moisture in the atmosphere in these regions. The predicted result is widespread shifts in precipitation zones, with temparate zones becoming drier while the tropics and subtropics become wetter.
This creates a big problem when it comes to food supply, because most of the world's commercial agriculture is in temperate zones, and most of the tropical and subtropical world is engaged in substinance farming. These areas will have to be developed commercially in order to meet the world's food demand.
Another danger posed by ice cap melting is the collapse of plankton populations in temperate seas. Since plankton is at the base of the oceanic food chain, this could result in a rapid die-off of fish populations, adding to the food problem.
In short, YES, global warming is real; YES, we are causing it (at least in part); and YES, we need to curb our production of greenhouse gasses. But it is NOT the sudden doom that some extremists want you to believe. Instead, it will result in a slow reduction of the world's food supply and an economic shift in favor of subtropical nations, who will have to meet the food demand.

Poor Brent. Another Believer without information or knowledge.
Global warming has always been a part of the system, along with global cooling. Man has little or nothing to do with it.
So now man has decided to start this new religion. Called man-made global warming.
If it rains too much, global warming
If it rains too little, global warming
If it is unusually cold, global warming
It it is unusually warm, global warming
If there are more hurricanes, global warming
If there are fewer hurricanes, global warming.
Etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
It has been said that religion provides a perfect vehicle for people who know nothing to profess to know everything about things that nothing is known about.
What better definition for Man-made Global Warming with Al Gore as its high priest!

Global Warming is real and will happen no matter what humans do. It is happening exactly like the Ice Age happened. The earth has Season and unlike the Seasons in a Year(summer, fall, ect.) these Seasons happen over thousands and thousands of years.

Yes it is real and we are causing it. As Al Gore points out, in hundreds of research works published on this topic, none says we aren't causing it.
Here is a recent news about it.

I don't know why people still don't believe we are the reason for it though scientists are crying out for our help!

The question is not if global warming is real. The question is if it is caused by human activities.
The media, Al Gore, and the Hollywood left constantly tell us that climate change is caused by human activities. However, many, many scientists do not agree. Many view climate change as a natural cycle.
We know for a fact that ice ages have come and gone. No doubt they will come and go again.
Don't get me wrong. I am all for conservation and promoting a clean environment. The point is, climate change is not necessarily man caused. I for one am not going to get all excited based on what a few alarmists keep repeating.
