In my bio paper..
'Flavr Savr' tomotoes are tomatoes that have been genetically modified so that they take longer than normal to ripen. This delay has been achieved by disabling a critical tomatoe gene so that it fails to produce a protein that is needed for the ripening to occur. In order to disable the gene, a start codon is inserted at the beginning of the nonsense strand so that both the sense and nonsense strand are copied into mRNA.

Why will this prevent a polypeptide from being produced?

To prepare a solution for which you need to know the concentration accurately, you weigh out 4.2079g of sodium chloride and dissolve it in about 40cm3 of water in a beaker. You want to make this up to a final volume of 100cm3 of water, do you:
i) add water up to the 100cm3 line;
ii) transfer the solution into a measuring cylinder and add water up to the 100cm3 line;
iii) transfer the solution into a 100cm3 volumetric flask and add water to the mark;
iv) pipette 60cm3 of water into the solution.
Explain your choice.

I want to copy-paste on Word, but I need a blank map. All outline maps I've seen on the net have some annoying web address printed across the Tropic of Cancer! I need one map that is perfectly clear. Similar help with the political map of India will be appreciated.

I wonder why they don't put the web address in some corners. It's really annoying if it is put across the map region, and it just won't do for my homework!

Hey, this isn't homework I'm studying for my A-level exam in January and don't understand this type of question and can't ask my teacher because we're off school. I would use simultaneous equations but there's 3 unknown variables.

The curve with equation y=ax^2 + bx + c passes through the point (1,2). The gradient of the curve is zero (0) at the point (2,1). Find the values of a,b,c.

I'd appreciate it if you even told me HOW to go about it without necessarily providing an answer.

I have ordered list of real numbers. Instead of having integer order number for each element (1, 2,...), I would like to have order numbers that reflect the proximity between two elements. For example, if 4th element's value is 0.5678 and 5th element has value of 0.5682, I want to have order number for 5th element to be something like 4.12 because two numbers are very close.
Are there any methods to do things like this?

I got a table in a bio paper:

Type of Nucleic Acid Proportion of organic bases
(percentage)
A G C T/U
Squirrel DNA 29 21 22 28
Shark DNA 28 21 21 30
Human mRNA 40 15 30 15

a) Explain why the proportion of Adenine and Guanine is approximately equal to that of Thymine and Cytosine in both pieces of DNA

b) Explain why a similer equality does not exsit between the proportion of A+G and the proportion of U+C in the RNA.

c) Despite being very different organisms, the squirrel and the shark have simelar proportions of the four different bases in their DNA. Explain how this is possible.
