2 < x < 4
4 < x^2 < 16 (since x is definitely positively)
-5 < (x^2) - 9 < 7
-1/5 > 1 / [(x^2) - 9] > 1/7

the end results doesn't seem logical
can any1 help? thanks...

I took some pictures tonight. There was finally a break in the overcast. It was taken with a Canon Powershot S3IS through an 8" Celestron Schmidt Cassegrain. It has vignetting, but I am a beginner and I am happy with the results I have been getting.

I am writing a program for making complex numbers operations. However, I have one problem with powers:
Assume I want to calculate x^y, where x and y can be any number (integer, real or complex, finite or infinite).
In this case x^y = Exp(y*Ln(x))

Exp and Ln are defined for a complex number "z" (see details below)

The problem is that x^y will fail when x=0 - and don't know how will behave for infinite numbers
I'd like to know:
a) If my definitions of Exp and Log are right for any value (real, complex, finite or infinite)
b) What exceptional case I should handle specially in the power function (for example, 0^0=undefined, x^0=1, 0^2=?)
I want to make it the most general possible...
Thanks.

I'm having trouble with this problem. I'm not sure what to do but I beilieve i would need to use momentum conservation.

when can assume when the springs velocity is 0 when the spring has reach it's max length .

the problem can be sloved by using the equation
m1v2 = m2v2

????

______________________________________

In a one dimensional air track two springs are collide head on in a elsatic collision. Spring 1 has mass of .081 kg and a velocity before contact with spring 2 of 5.3 m/s. Spring 2 has a mass of .053 kg and a velocity before contact with spring 1 of -3.6m/s. (the right side = +)

[1] what is the velocity of spring 1 and spring 2 when the two springs are at maximum compression?

[2] what is the velocity of spring 1 and spring 2 at the instant they touch each other?

Is this true? It doesn't even have to be directly overhead, but even if it is at a point where it is half way between east and west it seems as though it is just a quarter rotation of the Earth away from being on the horizon.....so six hours?
