I think its the mouth piece that you talk into because it transmits the sound like eardrum transmits the sound to the brain. IDK that is just a guess but it sounds good.

yeah I was right here is a source check out the microphone section although this is about the telephone with ear references not ear with telephone references, it was written in a simpler format than the others were.

it's like the mic part, let me 'splain:

when the sound waves hit the mic, it vibrates the mic, and makes a magnet attached to the mic cone vibrate. the magnet vibrates inside a copper coil, generating a little electricity, thus making the signal which is then sent to the other phone.

when sound hits the ear drum, it vibrates the ear drum, and vibrates nerves attached to it. the vibration makes the nerves send a nerve impulse through the nerves that connect to your brain.

The mouthpiece is most like the eardrum, because it picks up the sound to be translated (to the brain with the eardrum and to the person on the other end on the phone). Hope this helped!
