Meteors are small pieces of rocks or metals. They are formed due to breakage of comets when they pass very close to the sun. When the earth's orbit crosses the orbit of the comet, these meteors fall on the earth's surface as a shower. Thus a meteor is a relatively small body that has become incandescent because of the heat due to friction in passing through the atmosphere. Most of them are small and get burnt in the earth's atmosphere due to friction. The larger ones which manage to reach the earth are called meteorites.

we have meteor showers b/c when dirt and debris start to gather in space then there continue on there journey to this wonderful planet and when it gets here our mass and rotation speed cause the debris to get pulled into our atmosphere. that's when you see something commonly known as a shitting star. now how to have a meteor show is when lots of though debris and other space stuff such as comets and asteroids get close enough and get sucked into our atmosphere as well. so when its one its a shooting star or fallen star when many it in science talk the meteor shower.and there is something call an asteroid belt and it just so happens that this planet luckily gets close enough to that belt to suck in all of though asteroids an give us the beautiful show we get to see at least once a month. hoped this helped G/L for what ever you needed it for!
god bless and
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!

There is a whole universe full of flying objects--not UFOs, but huge rocks, asteroids, etc. When a bunch of these hit the earth's atmosphere, they burn up. What we see are shooting stars (not really stars at all). When an asteroid hits the atmosphere, it breaks up, and what we see is a meteor shower.
Oh, by the way...thank God for the atmosphere!!

I have hot showers, LOL just kidding.
They're rocks from outter space which get pulled by the earth gravity, most don't get to hit the earth ground since they vaporize with the extreme heat that speed reproduces as it's coming down fast.
