In my solutions manual, a question is explained like this:
To react completely with NaOH, an acid must have a pKa at least 3 units smaller than the pKa of H2O (it's conjugate acid).

Is the 3 unit smaller thing true for all reactions that goes to 99.9% completion, or is it only specific for this particular reaction with NaOH?

A friend of mine claims it "soaked into her skin" but I rather don't believe her. There are several reasons I don't, but the main reason is that I feel almost positive that I've seen people play with mercury in their hands before and it didn't permeate their skin.

Does anyone know for sure one way or the other? Please don't guess, I've already guessed and I don't need the guesses of others.

i know this is supposed to be a really easy question but i can't get to the right answer!! i know you're supposed to find a/b by elimination then sub but i keep getting the wrong answer...

heres the question:
Given the vectors u = [2,1] and v= [-1,3]:
a) Express the vector w = [12, -1] as a linear combination of vector u and v.

ANSWER: 5u - 2v

can someone explain / show work of how to do this please!!!

PS. all the letters have the little vector sign on them, just dunno how to do it on the computer lol.

1st thing she put in was a few drops of food coloring
Then some high powered hydrogen peroxyde
Then they squirted in some dish soap
Finally they added a catalyst in a shot glass
I dont know what that was..they didnt say

It exploded in a seriously cool release of oxygen from the peroxide.
What was the catalyst?
