FIghter pilots and submarine officers have their own way of representing vectors, and they do it three dimensions. Their survival depends on understanding vector approaches instead of saying an airplane is travelling of 400km/hr westward they usually say something like "Bogeys 10 click at 5'o clock high" "check your sives" or "unidentified object detected at 75 mark 8". How do these people represet magnitude and direction?

why do they put make up on monkeys? even all those big companies like Loreal are doing tests on animals before selling products to humans? cant they test a possible cure on humans and not on animals? why they dont know if the dose is lethal or not, so they rather sacrifice an animal than risk it on a human?

as far as I know that in history some leaders ordered to make those tests on prisoners, cause prisoners are usually healthy and in the right age. why they dont test on prisoners today even if they would consent?

I'm stuck on a problem, because I don't really understand what mapping is so I don't know what I can and can't do:

The problem is this:
------------------------------
Suppose that f:R -> R is a map such that for all x,y in R (the real numbers)

f(x+y) = f(x) + f(y) and f(xy) = f(x)f(y)

Prove that f is either:
1) the identity mapping for all x in R. i.e. f(x)=x,
or
2) the zero mapping for all x in R. i.e. f(x)=0
------------------------
he gave us one hint, that somewhere in our proof that the fact that every positive real number is a square will be very useful.

I have no idea what to do and any help would be wonderful!

Thanks in advance!

prove that the set {1,x,x^2} is linearly independent?
my confusion is
as we know X^2 -2x +1=0 or x^2+2x+1=0 then how i can show that
a(1)+b(x)+c(x^2)=0 implies a=b=c=0 for linearly independent. a,b,c are elements of field.
similarly how i show {1+x, 1+x+x^2} is linearly independent.
