electrons are moving so fast that your eye cannot detect the time lag before the light comes on.
0.024 cm/sec or so is the speed at which the electrons move from the light switch to the light bulb.

Electricity flows at approximately the speed of light. The delay is so short we see it as instantaneous.

By the way, those new compact fluorescent bulbs have a delay, and I flip the switch and think ? before the right goes on.

Electricity travels very fast. Light travels very fast...186,000 miles per second. There is a delay, but it is almost immeasurable.
