why do they put make up on monkeys? even all those big companies like Loreal are doing tests on animals before selling products to humans? cant they test a possible cure on humans and not on animals? why they dont know if the dose is lethal or not, so they rather sacrifice an animal than risk it on a human?

as far as I know that in history some leaders ordered to make those tests on prisoners, cause prisoners are usually healthy and in the right age. why they dont test on prisoners today even if they would consent?

Because new treatments may have side effects. Now I would much rather see a mouse die of it than myself. Stuff is tested on humans, but they will do it on animals first to make sure it doesn't kill you.

For exmaple, they tested the Ebola vaccine on monkeys first. Why? So the volunteer can be reasonably confident he isn't going to bleed to death from his eyeballs when he takes the stuff. I'm not sure about you, but if I was a volunteer, I would want to be reasonably confident the new stuff was safe first.

Even so, it's not a matter of "I want to see if this stuff works, let's go inject a cat with it". There are very strict laws on this stuff. Any treatment will go through extenisve tests long before it goes to animals. If those test are ok, then they go to humans. But they do go to humans as well.

I think some countries also limit the number of test you can do to one per animal, unless it's something that doesn't have any adverse effects (contact lenses are exempt).

As for prisoners, you are thinking of nazi germany and the concentration camps, which was not research; that was sick and horrific stuff that was just sadism. (One guy actually sewed two kids together to make siamese twins).

But stuff does get tested on humans as well, they just do it on animals first so they don't kill someone and wind up in prison for manslaughter.

It's sad, but some people just don't care about animals. They think they are less than humans and we therefore have the god given right to do what we want with them. Animal testing is archaic and there are cheaper tests (companies DO have to test products before selling them), but it "costs too much" to switch over to more humane testing.
If you want to help stop animal testing a great way to start is to stop buying from companies that test on animals. If you have any products around the house you can return it to the company with a letter explaining that you won't buy from that company until they stop testing on animals.
Procter&Gamble and Johnson&Johnson are 2 HUGE companies that make just about everything you find down the health&beauty and home cleaning aisles. All of their products are tested on animals...they suck.

because most humans would not volunteer and animals are cheaper and expendable, you don't go to jail if you kill your animal if a test doesn't work right.

I personally think it is cruel to put rabbits heads in a restraint so you can spray chemicals in their eyes to see what happens. all this for cosmetics. poor rabbits. some experiements yes for medical and done humanly but for cosmetics? that is questionable in the least and unecessary in the most.

I dont think they should have to test on anything...If theyre not 100% sure it's perfectly safe then why put it on the market.
