its got me stumped. are logarithms supposed to be involved?

Identify the parent function for g(x)=(x+3)^3 and describe what transformation of the parent function it represents.

I know the parent function is the cubic function, f(x)=x^3 but I need help with the type of translation.

I'm working on a fluid mechanics problem of finding the location of a vertical force on a curved surface. I'm trying to follow the solutions but don't understand one step. I know you have to sum the area moments. I'm familar with moments from statics, but never did moments with areas. The equation they give is 31.7x + 28.3(2.55)= (10x6)3. I understand the equation area*d+area*d=??? I don't understand where they got (10x6)3. I know it's hard without any pictures but generally what's it supposed to equal to? the problem is a cross section of a tank and has a cylindrical surface with r=6ft and h=10ft and contains water. This problem 3.8.7 in Fluid Mechanics by Finnemore. Thanks!!
