The Persian Gulf, in the Southwest Asian region, is an extension of the Indian Ocean located between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula and now is renamed to " Arabian Gulf".

Are you wondering why it is named after a Culture instead of a Nationality (ex. Indian Ocean, Sea of Japan)? I don' t know the history of why that name was chosen but I personally have no problem with it. It seems accurate enough.
