I only have a vague understanding that the formation of pearls involves precipitation.

The sulfur lagoons is a great example of precipitation. If you see, they are all yellow, and if you smell, its bad. This precipitation occurs as a rxn carried out in the digestive pathway of sulfur-consuming bacteria
