you can look up your citys recycable list if they have one. Alot of plastics will have recycle logos on them.

Thermo plastics(like mineral water bottles etc) are easier to recycle than thermo-setting plastics (like electric switches).The later are not only cumbersome to recycle but may not be cost effective.Any thing else?
