sTEP ONE FIND THE SLOPE USING:
Y1 - Y2
----------
X1 - X2

RECALL:
(X1, Y1) = (10,9)
(X2, Y2) = (10, 1)

9 - 1
-------
10 - 10

8
--
0

SINCE YOU CANNOT DIVIDE BY ZERO... THAT MEANS THE SLOPE IS UNDEFINED...

YOU WILL GET A VERTICAL LINE... YOU WILL NOT HAVE A TYPICAL Y = MX + B

WHAT YOU DO NOTICE HOWEVER....

BOTH POINTS HAVE AN X VALUE OF 10

THIS MEANS THE EQUTION OF THIS LINE IS ACTUALLY,,,
X = 10

line a million: (substitute in y)/(substitute in x) = (5-2)/(3-a million) = 3/2 line has equation, y = (3/2)x + c making use of the element (a million,2): 2 = (3/2)(a million) + c c = a million/2 line has equation, y = (3/2)x + a million/2 line2: (substitute in y)/(substitute in x) = (-4-a million)/(3-2) = -5 line has equation, y = (-5)x + c making use of the element (2,a million): a million = (-5)(2) + c c = 11 line has equation, y = (-5)x + 11 lines intersect while the equations are equivalent: (3/2)x + a million/2 = (-5)x + 11 (13/2)x = 21/2 x = 21/13 plug back into line equation (the two), to get y fee: y = (-5)x + 11 = (-5)(21/13) + 11 y = (-one 0 five + 143)/13 = 38/13 lines intersect on the element (21/13,38/13)

Note that both x values are the same (10) for two points on the line.
All other points on the line must have the same value of x.

Therefore the line is vertical, crossing the X axis at 10.

It has infinite slope, and no intercept.

Since both points have the same x-coordinate of 10, then all the points on the line would have the same x-coordinate of 10 regardless of the value of y. That means, the equation of the line is x=10.

Hope this helps.

Let's find the slope (m):
slope (m)= (y2 - y1)/(x2 -x1) where (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) are any two points on the line, x2 not equal to x1.

Notice that x2 = x1 = 10. So, m = -8/0 undefined. The slope of the line is undefined. If you were to graph the line, it would be a vertical line x=10.
