There is no conclusive evidence that any form of radio waves cause cancer.

Radio waves are simply a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum which at the low end starts with radio waves and ascends up into infra red light, visible light, ultraviolet light, and then into x-rays and even higher into gamma and cosmic rays. All of these are essentially the same thing but differ in frequency. Radio waves become harmful when they rise to what is called microwaves. These are in the gigahertz range and are absorbed in materials which contain water or are electrically conductive to some extent. Microwave ovens work by exciting the molecules in a conductive material. Microwaves are radio waves. The radio waves by themselves are not harmful, but in quantity can be. It is the quantity in a microwave oven which causes heating. The same approximate frequency is used by radar detectors used by police to give you a speeding ticket. Two things determine how harmful, proximity and quantity (or rather density, photons per square centimeter). Any wave in the electromagnetic spectrum can cause damage to the cells in the human body. Damage to cells in the human body can lead to a cancer. So, in that respect, YES, radio waves can cause cancer, but the liklihood is remote the lower the frequency and lower the power. The most likely are the higher end things, x-rays and gamma rays and cosmic rays. The mechanism is ionization of the DNA in the cell during cell reproduction. The DNA splits into two halves when the cell replicates itself. At this time, a cosmic ray can cause a defect in the single half and that will be replicated in all offspring. The defect could result in cancer. This can only be passed on to your children if it happens in the reproductive cells at exactly the right time when the sperm or egg is forming and there are singular halves of the DNA strand available. If the egg or sperm is affected at exactly the right time, and through procreation, meets up with the appropriate counterpart, the defect is introduced into the offspring. I think you can see that the odds are remote that any given offspring will carry a defect caused by an ionization event caused by a radio wave or a cosmic ray or a dental x-ray.

This, ionization events by cosmic rays, which cause changes in offspring are what the science community calls evolution. Evolution is a change which is introduced into an offspring which is carried on into further generations. These mutations are either beneficial (increases the chances of survivability and offspring), benign (neither helps nor hurts) or detrimental (which decreases the chances of survivability and offspring). This is what Darwin termed survival of the fittest. If your genes (changed and otherwise) promote your survivability, odds are your genes will carry on into the next generation. If you do not procreate, then any mutations made by any means at any time in your body will die with you, though before you die, they can cause you complications, such as cancer of some kind.

There's no question that large amounts of RF will cause damage through elevating the temperature of the tissue. But small amounts (such as those produced by cellphones) have not been conclusively shown to do any damage. But there are still a lot of people who believe that they might and lots of long-term studies are underway.
