A mass m is attached on a horizontal spring and is immobile.The k of the spring is 2000 N/m.We move the mass away from the equillibrium point to an amplitude A'=0.16 cm and then we set it free to move.It does a damped oscillation, with an amplitude which is getting smaller 25% in evey oscillation.

Find how much will the total energy be decreased after the two first oscillations of the mass.

Question is:

Two rectangles that are the same except in size.

Rectangle 1(larger of the two):
a)has an area: 64cm^2
b)a long side of 8.2cm

Rectangle 2(smaller of the two)
a)has an area of 25cm^2

b) the long side is unknown, how do we find this out.

I thought you needed to do.

Large area - small area
64 - 25 = 39

The square root of this to change the scale factor to length not area which = 6.2

then do 25(area of smaller) divided by 6.2 = 4? is this correct>

thanks for any help

Does the frame design affect the hurling distance or the efficiency of the trebuchet? Because I have a design but I don't like the way the frame will be built, it doesn't have that authentic, "medieval" look to it. So I want to modify it. But will this make the hurling distance shorter or longer? Or is the frame design irrelevant?

Thanks to a Yahoo Physcis expert they gave me the following:

´h=-16*t^2 +70 feet
v=-32 *t feet/s
h=0 t^2 = 70/16 so t =sqrt(70/16)=2.09 s

Can I get the answer too for each calculation? Just want to double check what I am doing is right

I often hear people refer to scientists in very general statements such as "Scientist believe..." or "Scientists dicovered that...". I would like to know if there is a national science board or something similar, where I can read about new discoveries and advances without getting conflicting stories. I often hear of something that "scientists" discovered and all of the sudden these creationists start poping up to refute the claim. Pretty soon it becomes impossible to find the original discovery.

My main interests are in the forming of the universe, fossil evolution, and DNA advances. If anyone knows of any good scientific accredited sites where I wont hear "god did it" mumbo jumbo I would love to hear about them, thanks!

If an infrequent user is 40% more likely to develop psychosis than a non user, does this mean that 40% of all persons diagnosed as psychotic has a history of infrequent use? It also said that frequent users are 200% more likely to develop psychosis. Does this mean 200% of all persons diagnosed to be psychotic were frequent users? That doesn't make sense, and I'm not really good with math, can you explain what these percentages mean, and how they got those numbers? Thanks!
