According to Super-String theory, it is tiny, tiny one-dimensional strings of vibrating energy that allows for the exists of matter at every level of structure. According to Brian Greene of, The Fabric Of The COSMOS, it is the frequency and amplitude of the vibrations of these tiny bits of string energy that results in matter and the general characteristics of matter.

Since any given string is capable of vibrating at any of a large number of frequencies and amplitudes, what regulates string behavior and thus, creates "stability" in the resulting forms of matter? Without some form of control, what keeps a given string from vibrating at anyone of a large number of frequencies at any one time? Does the mathematics have anything to say about control and regulation of string behavior over time?

Can such string variations be correlated with phase-transitions in matter, like when water goes from solid to liquid to steam?

I have no idea what Ka or Kb even is. I just need some help.

1. When 0.20 mol of lactic acid, HC3H5O3. is added to water to make 1.0 L of solution. The equilibrium hydrogen ion concentration is 5.3 x 10-3 M. What is the Ka of the lactic acid?

HC3H5O3 (aq) → H+(aq) + C3H5O3- (aq)

2. A 0.10M solution of formic acid has an equilibrium [H+] = 4.2 x 10-3 M. What is the Ka of the formic acid?

HCOOH(aq) → H+(aq) + HCOO- (aq)

3. What is the equilibrium hydrogen ion concentration of a 0.25M solution of carbonic acid, H2CO3? The Ka = 4.2 x 10-7.

H2CO3 (aq) → H+(aq) + HCO3-(aq)

4. What is the equilibrium for the hydroxide ion in a 0.10M solution of CN-? The Kb is 2.0 x 10-5.

CN-(aq) → OH-(aq) + HCN(aq)

5. What is the equilibrium concentration of hydrogen ion in a 0.10 M solution of propanoic acid, C2H5COOH? The Ka of propanoic acid is 1.8 X 10-5.

C2H5COOH(aq) → H+(aq) + C2H5COO -(aq)

Any help is appreciated

The dictionary defines "wind" as:

air in natural motion, as that moving !horizontally! at any velocity along the earth's surface

But you can't have a horizontal motion on a round surface. If you could, you'd define horizontal as going around the surface, and thus there could be on horizontal lines. And you can't define horizontal as "perpendicular to vertical" since there are and infinite number of vertical lines coming from the center of the earth. That would make the term vauge. even a vertical line is perpendicular to some of the other vertical lines coming from the center of the earth. Therefore, there can be no horizontal lines.

How am I wrong in the conclusion that there can be no horizontal lines?

Hi guys and girls, just found this little critter in my room, I'm panicking that it is a cockroach but I can't really find one that looks simlar although I've just read that there are over 300 types, it has a round head, then a square bit behind that then and oval shape, very similar to a cockroach, its a dark reddy brown in colour and has quite shorts antennas (is that what they're called?) from what i can see its legs arent hairy like i think they would be if it was, i hope to god this is just a beetle! Please see the link to the pictures, thanks alot! Jess

aliens are our desendants, we are their ancestors. Being that in order for them to travel from planets beyond our solar system would take light years, then time travel may be possible through the measurment of distance in time, therefor allowing them to look back at us/in time when we have sightings of UFO's. They are traveling back in time in theory, and we are their past.

I was soo expecting an A for my class, I don't understand how I got a B. My teacher provided me with the syllabus as an explanation, but that still doesn't help me: Here are my grades:

84.78 -- Test 1
60 -lowest grade is dropped --Quiz 1
62.5 --- quiz 2
100 ---quiz 3
87.5 --- Test 2
100 --- quiz 4
89.47 ---Test3
80 ---- quiz 5
100 ---- quiz 6
70 ----- quiz 7
-----------------------------
774.25/9 = 86.02 without extra credit points and/or
extra 10 points for being the only person to make 100% on quiz 3.
Extra credit is worth 3-5 points per question and I did 21
questions, so even if I only got the minimum of 3 points for each question I should still get atleast a 90 which is an A.
So I'm really not sure how my average/grade turned out
to be 87.27%

Quizzes = 40%
Tests 1, 2, 3 = 30% each

So can you please help me figure out what my grade should be. Is it really a B?

It might sound crazy,but... could u send via e-mail photos you have taken with your telescope? I'm mostly interested in planet Venus which is very very close to Earth these days. But i would appretiate it if u could send me also 1-2 photos of a galaxy or another planet. I love astronomy but cannot afford an expensive world class telescope...
