As n->infinity, the plot of the curve x^n+y^n=1 approaches a square. Does anyone know of a sequence of curves (preferably with a simple definition) which approaches an equilateral triangle?

There was a Hokkaido earthquake around 11:20 p.m. Japan time on July 16 -- earlier in the day, there was one in Niigata which was quite destructive. Was the Hokkaido earthquake related to that, or pretty much a seperate event?

Also, where does one go on the internet to find news about very recent earthquakes in Japan? I know the TV stations broadcast info about earthquakes and tsunami, but if I miss the announcement, I've been having a hard time finding the right words to put in the search engine. Japanese sites are OK.

BTW, I tried USGS, but they didn't have it right away.

I know that by combining harmonic sinusoids together we can get a square wave. But i want to know whether we can split a square wave into its harmonic components. Its hard for me to believe a square wave(Lets say its being produced by a Battery Switched On & Off continuously) will contain sine waves.
