I'm doing a piece of biology coursework based around grass thickness and how it increases as distance from the shade increases. Can anyone give me the science behind it and bring in like the cuticle of the grass and the palisade parenchyma?

Well, with my grass, it's because I use a shampoo with a good conditioner on my lawn at least twice a week. In your case, perhaps a Google search might get you off to a good start.
